About The Position

Farmscape is looking for an experienced Fine Gardening Lead to join our team. The ideal candidate has a strong background in fine gardening and horticulture, takes pride in highly detailed plant care, and can work quickly and efficiently while maintaining a high standard of quality. This position is hands-on and physical, but it also requires strong horticultural knowledge, organization, communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities. You should be someone who notices the details, understands what plants need, and can confidently work independently while contributing to a team. Farmscape designs, installs, and maintains food-focused landscapes that are beautiful, productive, and made for outdoor living across Los Angeles & the Bay Area. Requirements

  • 2+ year of professional experience in fine gardening, landscaping, horticulture, farming, grounds maintenance, or a related field
  • Strong background and demonstrated interest in fine gardening and horticulture
  • Strong working knowledge of plants, including plant identification, pruning, planting, watering, fertilizing, soil management, and general plant care
  • Ability to recognize common plant health, pest, disease, and irrigation issues
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to complete tasks efficiently while maintaining a high standard of quality
  • Ability to independently prioritize and manage multiple tasks throughout the workday
  • Curiosity, resourcefulness, tenacity, and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to communicate clearly, confidently, and professionally with clients and team members
  • Ability to learn and consistently apply Farmscape's best practices
  • Comfortable working independently while also contributing to a collaborative team environment
  • Valid driver's license and proof of insurance

Nice To Haves

  • Formal horticultural education, coursework, certification, or equivalent hands-on horticultural experience is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain high-quality landscapes, farms, edible gardens, and outdoor spaces at residential and commercial properties throughout the Bay Area
  • Perform detailed fine-gardening maintenance, including pruning, weeding, planting, watering, fertilizing, mulching, and general garden care
  • Identify a wide variety of ornamental, native, edible, and landscape plants and provide appropriate care based on their individual needs
  • Maintain garden aesthetics and plant health through careful, detail-oriented horticultural practices
  • Help maintain edible gardens through planting, harvesting, crop care, soil management, succession planting, and seasonal preparation
  • Monitor plants and landscapes for pests, diseases, irrigation issues, nutrient deficiencies, and other potential problems
  • Maintain and troubleshoot irrigation systems and identify basic irrigation issues
  • Provide ongoing care and pruning for fruit trees, including basic structural pruning, seasonal pruning, sucker removal, and general orchard maintenance
  • Complete assigned tasks efficiently and manage time effectively to meet site and route expectations
  • Keep landscapes, pathways, sidewalks, work areas, and client spaces clean and well maintained
  • Perform hands-on landscape work including digging, raking, shoveling, planting, loading, unloading, and moving materials, tools, and equipment
  • Keep tools, equipment, vehicles, and work areas clean, organized, and safe
  • Maintain accurate notes and communicate important site observations, plant issues, irrigation concerns, and completed work
  • Communicate with clients in a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional manner and provide updates when appropriate
  • Support and help train team members in horticultural practices, garden maintenance, and safe equipment use
  • Follow Farmscape work standards, horticultural practices, and safety procedures
  • Represent Farmscape professionally at all client properties
  • Drive between project sites, supply vendors, and company locations; a valid driver's license is required
  • Assist with other gardening, landscaping, farming, and maintenance tasks as needed
