About The Position

R1 is a healthcare revenue cycle company that combines technology and the expertise of its people to help hospitals, health systems, and medical groups improve financial performance, simplify administrative complexity, and improve experiences for patients and providers. The Financial Counseling Representative supports patients and families with payment collection, insurance questions, and applications for Medicaid or other financial assistance programs. The role works with clinical and administrative partners to help determine eligibility and coverage, advocate for patients, and communicate potential delays in service. No prior experience is required; equivalent experience may be considered in place of a high school education. The position is described as remote. The base pay range for this US-based position is $15.43–$20.82 per hour.

Responsibilities

Initiate the process for collecting prepays due and follow up to maximize collection.
Identify hospital and public financial assistance programs for patients unable to meet their financial obligations.
Work with Case Management, clinical staff, the Medicaid Vendor, and the Family Independence Agency to help patients and families complete assistance program applications and determine eligibility and coverage.
Assist uninsured patients and families with completing and filing Medicaid or assistance program applications with the appropriate agency.
Counsel patients about insurance benefits and recommend alternative payment sources and financial assistance when appropriate.
Contact or check insurance carriers and websites for non-automated eligibility and advocate for patients.
Notify the manager, physician, and servicing department about possible service delays for elective or urgent admissions, procedures, and scheduled diagnostic testing that have not been approved before the date of service.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
