About The Position

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians. Reporting to the Controller – Shipyards, the Finance Intern will support the Corporate Governance and Tax teams to manage financial risks and support tax reporting requirements across the three shipyards at Seaspan Shipyards and the Seaspan Marine Group. This position collaborates with teams across operating divisions to manage financial policies and assess financial risks associated with corporate commitments and to support Seaspan’s tax needs. Strong communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities are essential for this role. Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton, North Vancouver.

Requirements

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in finance or accounting is required
  • 1-2 years of experience in a business/financial analysis role, with preference to candidates with experience working in a complex multi-business environment is considered an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communication with ability to communicate with others with tact and diplomacy
  • Very strong attention to detail, critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Work well under pressure and can prioritize multiple tasks to meet deadlines
  • Being Proactive. Self-motivated to learn new concepts and participate in new projects
  • Ability to collaborate in virtual and in-person environments

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and performance of finance reviews related to corporate commitments with suppliers and customers.
  • Assist with coordinating supplier credit applications, including collaborating with other departments to assess the associated financial risks for the organization.
  • Assist with updating financial policies for Seaspan Shipyards.
  • Assist with performing compliance reviews with applicable financial policies
  • Assist with the preparation of corporate and sales tax reporting forms, tax returns and estimates and working papers.
  • Perform additional ad-hoc analysis and other duties, as assigned.
