About The Position

Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians. The Intern, Configuration and Data Management provides support to the Engineering department in processing and configuring project documentation and data within the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system. This position provides exposure to the ship building industry with hands-on experience working with engineering data and cross-functional teams, while also developing foundational skills in configuration and data management. Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at 2 Pemberton, North Vancouver.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Information Management, or a related discipline
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • High attention to detail with the ability to handle structured and technical information
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks with guidance
  • Basic problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Interest in ship building, construction, data management or systems

Nice To Haves

  • Previous co-op, internship, or academic project experience in a related field is considered an asset but not required

Responsibilities

  • Assist in maintaining data accuracy and integrity within PLM toolsets, identifying potential inconsistencies or quality issues under supervision.
  • Supports the Engineering department by facilitating and coordinating documentation and change management processes.
  • Help coordinate the receipt and configuration of technical data from vendors and cross-departmental teams.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Detail Design, Supply Chain, Production, and other departments to support resolution of issues and expedite project tasks.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and learn industry practices.
  • Other duties as required.
