The Field Service Technician repairs, maintains, and diagnoses crane machinery and equipment. The role involves identifying equipment failures, testing and adjusting equipment, and disassembling, cleaning, inspecting, repairing, or replacing components while maximizing the reuse of parts to control costs. The technician prepares repair estimates and supporting information, monitors expenses against estimates, and alerts the lead person to cost overruns before work is completed. The technician also completes accurate parts requisitions, time cards, work orders, and service reports using dealer computer systems; maintains required tools and personal service literature; and keeps current with technical changes. Work is performed independently or as part of a team, with no supervisory responsibility, and may include temporarily assuming the lead person position. The technician is expected to work safely and neatly, communicate effectively with employees and customers, and provide responsive customer service. Work is typically during regular business hours, with occasional nights, holidays, and weekends. The role regularly involves exposure to outdoor conditions, heat, noise, vibration, physical hazards, fumes, dust, and oils, as well as climbing, kneeling, standing, walking, handling tools, and lifting or moving items of varying weights.
