About The Position

The Town of Leesburg is seeking a Field Service Technician to perform tasks associated with initiating and discontinuing water service, leak investigation, customer service functions, and inspection and repair of fire hydrants. This role also involves setting, reading, programming, repairing, and maintaining water meters and meter transmitter units. The position is responsible for a variety of semi-skilled and skilled installation, maintenance, and customer service tasks on residential and commercial water meters, including locating, installing, reading, replacing, repairing, testing, and adjusting water meters and fire hydrants. This is primarily an outdoor position, working individually to meet daily deadlines. Requirements

  • HS/GED
  • Minimum of one year of experience with maintenance or equivalent combination of education and experience (Trainee)
  • Minimum of two to three years of experience with water meter reading system and water system maintenance (Technician)
  • Minimum of four to five years of experience with water meter reading system and water system maintenance (Senior Technician)
  • Experience using computers
  • Basic computer skills with Microsoft Office (Trainee, Technician)
  • Advanced knowledge in MS Suite applications and computer program applications appropriate to the position (Senior Technician)
  • Possession of a valid driver's license and safe driving record
  • VDOT Flagging, CPR and First Aid Certifications or ability to obtain within six months of hire (Trainee, Technician)
  • Meter test bench certification (Technician, Senior Technician)
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B and tanker endorsement (Senior Technician)

Responsibilities

  • Physically initiating and discontinuing water service
  • Leak investigation

  • Setting, reading, programming, repairing, and maintaining water meters and meter transmitter units
  • Performing a variety of semi-skilled and skilled installation, maintenance and customer service tasks on residential and commercial water meters
  • Locating, installing, reading, replacing, repairing, testing, and adjusting a variety of large complex component water meters and fire hydrants
  • Completing related tasks as assigned
  • Assisting with after-hour requests and emergencies on an "on-call" basis
