About The Position

The Field Service Technician assists with start-up commissioning, integration, emergency service, troubleshooting, and maintenance of Vertiv medium-voltage electrical switchgear and related equipment, including circuit breakers, protective relays, PLCs, meters, and other automated devices. The role also involves mechanical repairs and modifications. The technician evaluates equipment operating conditions, responds to customer emergency calls, and strives to resolve issues on the first visit.

The technician is expected to build and maintain strong relationships with customers, coworkers, sales representatives, and other contacts; manage their own schedule; and communicate promptly and accurately with internal and external customers, the CRC, supervisors, and managers. The position requires following applicable safety requirements, completing timely timecards and expense reports, and contributing to continuous improvement. Travel is required approximately 80% of the time.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• A valid driver’s license.
• Training in electrical theory and technologies.
• Familiarity with electrical/electronic test equipment and fundamentals.
• Mechanical aptitude.
• Standard computer skills, including MS Outlook, Word, and Excel.
• Ability to consistently lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check.

Nice To Haves

• Five or more years of hands-on medium-voltage switchgear or field-services experience is desired.
• Experience or prior military service performing applicable job duties.
• Ability to read schematics and blueprints for power control and automation.
• Knowledge of power distribution, AC/DC, voltage circuit theory, and practical troubleshooting.
• Background in electrical power, including medium voltage, and experience with most types of switchgear testing.
• Experience programming PLCs and HMIs.

Responsibilities

• Assist with start-up commissioning, integration, emergency service, and troubleshooting of Vertiv 15 kVAC electrical switchgear.
• Perform general and preventive maintenance on switchgear.
• Respond to emergency calls at customers’ request.
• Evaluate the operating conditions of equipment.
• Strive to provide customers with a first-time fix for their equipment.
• Establish and maintain excellent rapport with customers, coworkers, sales representatives, and others.
• Manage one's own schedule.
• Provide accurate and timely communication to internal and external customers, the CRC, supervisors, and direct managers.
• Monitor and ensure compliance with safety policies, procedures, guidelines, and laws.
• Submit timecards, expense reports, and other required reports accurately and on time.
• Drive continuous improvement.
