About The Position

Q-Lab Corporation is seeking an experienced Field Repair Technician in the Columbia, South Carolina area. The technician services and repairs laboratory instruments and test equipment for customers across North America. The role involves approximately 50% domestic and international travel annually, including trips away for up to a full week. Applicants must live within reasonable driving distance of a major airport. Q-Lab Corporation is a global provider of material durability testing products and contract testing services. It designs and manufactures weathering, light stability, and corrosion testers, and operates testing facilities in the United States and sales and distribution facilities in England, Germany, and China. Its corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility are in Westlake, Ohio.

Requirements

Recognized electrical or mechanical qualification, with an apprenticeship and five years of work experience.
Work experience with technical equipment, preferably in a laboratory setting.
Ability to read and interpret documents, instructions, and manuals.
Diplomacy and tact when urgently reporting non-conforming events (NCEs) to management.
High proficiency with computers and typing, including Windows, Microsoft applications, and relevant CRM systems.
Domestic and international travel experience and ability.
Clean driving record.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot malfunctioning laboratory instruments or test equipment and test mechanical mechanisms and electronic circuitry to identify root-cause failures.
Perform hands-on repairs to malfunctioning laboratory instruments or test equipment, and test assemblies for conformance to manufacturer specifications.
Travel domestically and internationally approximately 50% of the year to provide repair support to direct-market customers, including trips away for up to a full week when required.
Provide customers with recommendations by phone and email to resolve instrument issues and follow up on ongoing issues. This may include sending replacement parts, referring information to the home office for guidance, or performing an onsite resolution.
