About The Position

The Field Engineer supports construction projects under the direction of a Lead Project Engineer, Construction Manager, or Resident Engineer. This entry-level engineering role in construction management turns field inspection data into contract administration, including progress payments, change orders, submittals, RFIs, force accounts, and project controls. The Field Engineer manages project documentation, ensures compliance with contract requirements, and maintains records that support the financial and administrative side of the project. The role works closely with inspection staff to verify quantities, review daily reports, and maintain complete and accurate documentation. It builds foundational project-management skills in document control, contract comprehension, cost tracking, and communication with the project team, contractors, and owner. Staff are expected to develop proficiency quickly and take increasing ownership of assigned responsibilities. The position may include field inspection activities such as inspecting construction work, conducting sampling, and documenting observations. Advancement from Field Engineer I to Field Engineer II requires demonstrated proficiency, consistent compliance with documentation and quality standards, initiative, effective coordination, required certifications, a Lead recommendation, and executive-level approval.
