About The Position

EGS is seeking a Fellow Engineer - Mechanical Process Design Engineer to provide advanced mechanical process design engineering support for engineering projects at the Savannah River Site. This position is responsible for applying advanced engineering expertise to resolve complex technical problems, develop engineering designs, and generate design output documents supporting nuclear and process chemical facility projects. The selected candidate will perform engineering analyses, develop technical solutions, lead complex engineering assignments, and provide expert-level mechanical process design support in accordance with SRNS engineering processes and procedures. The successful candidate will possess extensive mechanical process design experience within the nuclear or process chemical industry, significant DOE facility experience, and demonstrated expertise developing engineering documentation including Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), equipment specifications, engineering analyses, and mechanical design deliverables. This role requires exceptional technical leadership, analytical capabilities, and the ability to independently solve complex engineering challenges while supporting critical DOE missions.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Engineering or applicable scientific discipline with approximately 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Master's degree with approximately 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree with approximately 15 years of relevant experience.
  • Bachelor's degree must be in: Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 15 years of mechanical process design experience within the nuclear or process chemical industry.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience supporting one or more DOE facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and revising engineering documentation including: Process Flow Diagrams, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), System Descriptions, Mechanical Equipment Lists, Mechanical Equipment Sizing, Pipe and Valve Specifications, Failure Analysis, Accident Analysis, Finite Element Analysis, ASME Code Design and Evaluation, Pipe Stress Analysis, Material Handling Design, Fire Protection Design, HVAC Design, Vendor Document Reviews.
  • Ability to independently resolve complex engineering problems.
  • Ability to lead engineering teams and provide technical leadership.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Active DOE L or Q Clearance within the past two years.
  • Previous Savannah River Site (SRS) Design Engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of SRNS design processes and engineering procedures.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Apply advanced technical practices to resolve complex engineering challenges.
  • Develop solutions involving complex technical requirements, specialized materials, and unique engineering processes.
  • Lead technical teams in solving complex engineering problems.
  • Provide expert technical guidance within areas of specialization.
  • Remain current on technical developments, industry practices, and engineering trends relevant to assigned disciplines.
  • Develop engineering plans, schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for assigned engineering tasks.
  • Monitor engineering progress, budgets, and quality of work performed.
  • Support research, development, testing, and quality assurance activities.
  • Deliver engineering services utilizing SRNS engineering processes and procedures.
  • Coordinate engineering activities with project teams and management.
  • Prepare engineering reports, technical documentation, and design deliverables.
  • Communicate engineering objectives and technical results to customers, management, engineering teams, and oversight organizations.
  • Prepare technical reports suitable for external publication.
  • Maintain high technical standards throughout all engineering documentation.
