About The Position

Seeking a Principal Engineer - Mechanical Process Design Engineer to provide support to our client in Aiken, SC. The Contractor will provide design engineering staff augmentation support to the client. Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, and use other technical resources within the company, to resolve complex problems. Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise. Develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise. Keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in area of expertise in the external world. Be aware of capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers. Identify technical programs which can be carried out with little guidance and take the initiative to accomplish them. Lead task teams for developing solutions to more complex problems. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management. Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Include research, development, testing, quality assurance requirements. Communicate the results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers and oversight groups. Prepare reports for external publication. Engineering services shall be provided using the client processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by the client.

Requirements

  • Considered an internal expert in area of expertise. Contributes to advancing knowledge in field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations. Can solve complex problems in field.
  • Must demonstrate a minimum of 15 years design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry
  • Must demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of experience working at one or more DOE facilities
  • Must demonstrate experience creating and revising documentation in one or more of the following areas: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews
  • Must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing of ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing
  • Must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a DOE “Q” security clearance
  • Minimum BS Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years
  • Previous SRS Design Engineering experience and working knowledge of SRNS design processes and procedures
