About The Position

COMPA Industries is searching for qualified candidates for an onsite Mechanical Process Design Engineer position in Aiken, South Carolina. This position requires an experienced engineer capable of independently resolving complex technical problems, leading multidisciplinary engineering efforts, developing design deliverables, and applying advanced engineering principles to nuclear and chemical process systems. The selected candidate will support engineering activities using established Savannah River Nuclear Solutions processes and procedures.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 15 years of mechanical or chemical process design experience within the nuclear or chemical process industry.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience working at one or more Department of Energy facilities.
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering, or current registration as a Professional Engineer in one of these disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience producing and revising complex mechanical and process engineering design documents.
  • At least 15 years of design experience in the nuclear or chemical process industry.
  • At least 10 years of experience at one or more DOE facilities.
  • Recognition as a technical expert capable of independently solving complex engineering problems.
  • Experience leading technical teams and coordinating multidisciplinary engineering work.
  • Strong written, verbal, analytical, and technical communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience creating, reviewing, or revising documentation in one or more of the following areas: Process flow diagrams, Piping and instrumentation diagrams, System descriptions, Mechanical equipment lists, Mechanical equipment sizing calculations, Pipe and valve specifications, Failure analysis, Accident analysis, Finite element analysis, ASME Code design and evaluation, Pipe stress analysis, Material handling design, Fire protection design, HVAC design, Vendor document reviews.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Savannah River Site design engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of SRNS engineering and design processes and procedures.
  • Experience supporting nuclear facility modifications and capital projects.
  • Current Professional Engineer registration.
  • An active DOE “L” or “Q” clearance, or a DOE clearance held within the previous two years.
  • Experience preparing technical publications, engineering reports, or professional society presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex mechanical and process engineering analysis and design development.
  • Develop, review, revise, and approve engineering design deliverables.
  • Lead technical efforts involving complicated requirements, specialized materials, unique processes, and multidisciplinary coordination.
  • Develop engineering solutions for nuclear and chemical process systems.
  • Perform equipment sizing, system evaluations, failure analyses, and accident analyses.
  • Prepare and revise process flow diagrams and piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Develop system descriptions, mechanical equipment lists, and equipment specifications.
  • Prepare pipe and valve specifications.
  • Perform or support finite element analysis and ASME Code evaluations.
  • Perform pipe stress analysis and mechanical integrity evaluations.
  • Support material handling, fire protection, and HVAC system design.
  • Review vendor drawings, calculations, specifications, and other technical submittents.
  • Lead task teams assigned to resolve complex technical problems.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, budgets, and staffing requirements for major technical assignments.
  • Monitor engineering progress, expenditures, schedules, and quality.
  • Coordinate with project management, operations, construction, procurement, quality assurance, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Communicate technical results through reports, presentations, calculations, and engineering documents.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to less-experienced engineers.
  • Perform weekly field walkdowns to verify existing conditions and support engineering design activities.
