The position involves incorporating advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes, and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. The candidate will provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise. They will develop solutions to complex technical problems in fields of expertise, keep informed on technical needs within the company and technical trends in their area of expertise in the external world, and be aware of the capabilities of the work group and needs of its customers. The role involves identifying technical programs that can be carried out with little guidance and taking the initiative to accomplish them. The candidate will lead task teams for developing solutions to more complex problems, prepare plans including schedules, budgets, and personnel requirements for solving major technical tasks identified by management, and develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget, and review quality of work performed. This includes research, development, testing, and quality assurance requirements. The candidate will communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscript form to customers, colleagues, managers, and oversight groups, and prepare reports for external publication. They will be considered an internal expert in their area of expertise and contribute to advancing knowledge in their field of expertise through various avenues such as internal and external publications and professional society presentations. The candidate must be able to solve complex problems in their field and provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS. Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, design development, and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews. Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures, with programmatic guidance provided by SRNS.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Q Clearance is required
  • An advanced degree and experience, a Ph.D. degree and about 10 years' experience.
  • MS degree and 12 years' experience.
  • BS degree and approximately 15 years' experience. BS Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
  • The candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 15 years’ design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
  • The candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of experience working at one or more DOE facilities.
  • Candidate must demonstrate experience creating and revising documentation in one or more of the following areas: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.

Nice To Haves

  • Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years is preferred.
  • Previous SRS Design Engineering experience and working knowledge of SRNS design processes and procedures are preferred.
