The New York Times is hiring an Audience fellow for its 2027 Fellowship class in New York. The fellowship offers a comprehensive understanding of the newsroom’s off- and on-platform audience development and engagement work, with rotations across the Audience team and collaboration with newsroom, strategy, product, data and marketing colleagues. Off-platform work includes developing social strategy, visual, copy/framing and news-judgment skills; tracking trends; helping shape live coverage of breaking stories; and optimizing headlines and links. On-platform work includes engaging readers through the Times’ owned surfaces, community efforts, home screen and email. The data and audience insights rotation provides exposure to analytics, audience research, data-literacy skills and helping desks optimize coverage. This is an in-office position with regular attendance four days per week. Some remote-work flexibility may be available according to departmental guidance. The fellow may be required to work some nights, weekends and holidays as needed. The program is expected to begin on or about June 7, 2027, and end on May 26, 2028, subject to satisfactory performance. There is no guarantee of a full-time position after the fellowship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States; work visas will not be sponsored.
