Federal Growth Lead, Combatant Commands

Sitreps•Washington, DC
•$200,000 - $250,000

About The Position

A venture-backed software company is seeking a Federal Growth Lead to own sales across the unified combatant commands. The company replaces legacy systems used by federal agencies with modern, AI-native software; its systems are already deployed across federal civilian agencies and within the Department of War. The role covers the full sales cycle, from building relationships and prospecting through demonstrations, procurement, negotiation, and close. There is no prescribed sub-territory; the hire will begin with their existing relationships and build a portfolio across commands. The combatant commands operate with joint staffs, compressed decision cycles for urgent needs, and acquisition pathways that can move faster than standard program-of-record processes. The role requires navigating those differences, building relationships with command staff and supporting program offices, and developing a repeatable account strategy. The position is an individual-contributor sales role that includes prospecting, carrying an ambitious quota, independently demonstrating software, and transitioning closed work into delivery. The preferred locations are New York or Washington, DC, with remote work anywhere in the U.S. considered. Travel is about 40% for someone based in New York or DC and 50% or more for someone remote, including travel within and outside the continental U.S. Compensation is $200,000–$250,000 base salary, plus commission and equity.

Requirements

  • Deep experience in or with the combatant commands, whether on a joint staff, as a civilian, or selling into them.
  • A record of building accounts from zero and closing complex, multi-stakeholder deals against a quota.
  • Fluency with COCOM procurement requirements, rapid acquisition authorities, and buying cycles.
  • Willingness to work as an individual contributor, including prospecting, carrying an ambitious number, and owning deals through transition into delivery.
  • Comfort demonstrating software independently.
  • Working fluency with CRM tools such as Salesforce.
  • U.S. citizenship, due to security and eligibility requirements tied to Department of War contracts.

Nice To Haves

  • An active U.S. security clearance; TS/SCI preferred.
  • Prior experience working in a COCOM.
  • Strong existing relationships within a specific combatant command, preferably SOCOM, INDOPACOM, or EUCOM.
  • Experience in coalition or multinational environments, or with OTA consortia such as NSTXL or Tradewinds.

Responsibilities

  • Own the combatant command sales cycle end to end, from outbound prospecting through demonstrations, proposals, negotiation, and close.
  • Build strategic account plans and a repeatable approach across the combatant commands.
  • Navigate COCOM rapid acquisition pathways, including OTAs, urgent operational needs processes, and component-command task orders.
  • Build direct relationships with staff leadership and program offices supporting COCOM missions.
  • Lead discovery sessions and product demonstrations, often for coalition and multinational stakeholders, without sales engineering support.
  • Travel to command headquarters, conferences, and partner-nation engagements.
  • Partner with proposal, capture, and design teams on solicitation responses and pricing.
  • Carry an ambitious sales quota and own deals from first contact through transition into delivery.
