About The Position

Emory University is seeking a faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level for its Center for Ethics. This university-wide center focuses on teaching, research, and public programming in ethics. The vision of the Center for Ethics is to inspire and advance scholarship and education in ethics, ignite the moral imagination, and foster lives of moral meaning and ethical engagement. The successful candidate will hold an appointment in the School of Medicine and/or another relevant School and Department. This full-time, on-campus position involves teaching at the graduate and healthcare professional level, publishing research, and contributing to the Center's programming and service. The Center welcomes applicants with diverse scholarly interests in bioethics, including clinical ethics, the ethics of AI in health, neuroethics, research ethics, and the ethics of health disparities. While not required, the Center supports the development of externally funded scholarship and encourages applications from those interested in securing such funding.

  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated experience and comfort in working in both in person and online settings
  • Commitment to collaboration with colleagues at the Center for Ethics, across the university and in the community
  • Residency in the state of GA

Nice To Haves

  • Terminal post-graduate degree (PhD, JD, MD, etc.) in a field related to bioethics
  • Demonstrated success in teaching and mentoring healthcare professionals and/or graduate students
  • Record of quality scholarship in bioethics
  • Ability and interest in securing extramural funding

Responsibilities

  • Teaching ethics and bioethical issues in an integrated curriculum in the School of Medicine
  • Teaching core and elective courses in the Master of Arts (MA) in Bioethics
  • Advising and mentoring MA in Bioethics graduate students and thesis/capstone projects
  • Pursuing independent and collaborative scholarship
  • Providing service to and/or developing programming for the Center, Emory University, and the greater community.
