Indiana University Bloomington invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor or tenured associate or full professor in the Department of Statistics, College of Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate will develop a research program at the forefront of statistics, artificial intelligence, experimentation, and health, with particular interest in statistical methodology for AI-enabled experimentation in health, aging, and related areas. Relevant applications include autonomous and AI-guided experimentation, adaptive and innovative clinical trials, precision medicine, self-driving laboratories, digital twins and in-silico experimentation, and AI-enabled drug discovery. Exceptional candidates working in other application areas will also be considered. The department welcomes research developing methodology and theory in statistical subfields relevant to AI-enabled experimentation, including experimental and clinical trial design, sequential experimentation, Bayesian optimization, active learning, contextual bandits, reinforcement learning, online experimentation, causal inference, treatment-effect heterogeneity, statistical learning, machine learning evaluation and monitoring, micro-randomized trials, uncertainty quantification, and prediction-powered inference. Indiana University Bloomington offers academic-industry partnerships in health and biotechnology, including a five-year $40 million partnership with Eli Lilly on AI-enabled clinical trials research and a five-year master collaboration agreement with Cook Medical. These partnerships are coordinated through the IU Launch Accelerator for Biosciences and complement the university's clinical and health-science ecosystem, including the IU Medical Center and IU School of Medicine. The successful candidate will have opportunities to work across statistical theory and methodology, applied industry collaborations, and translation into practice. The department has strengths in Bayesian methods, high-dimensional statistics, computational statistics, physics-informed inference, and biostatistics, and is closely connected to the Indiana Statistical Consulting Center and potential collaborators across campus. Faculty are expected to develop and maintain a robust research portfolio, pursue and obtain major extramural research funding as both a corresponding principal investigator and collaborating investigator, teach and mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students, and provide service to the department, school, university, profession, and/or community. The successful candidate is expected to excel in research and perform strongly in teaching and service. The position is on the Indiana University Bloomington campus, and the successful candidate is expected to work on campus. These are 10-month appointments, ideally beginning August 1, 2027; an earlier or later start date is negotiable.
