About The Position

The Petroleum Engineering Program in the School of Chemical Engineering at Oklahoma State University seeks nominations and applications for an open-rank, tenure-track or tenured faculty position. Candidates shall have earned a doctorate in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related area and display a strong interest in undergraduate and graduate education. The successful applicant is expected to establish a nationally recognized, externally funded research program. Industrial experience is considered an asset. The primary areas of interest are drilling and completion engineering, but all candidates with a proven record of excellence in areas like production and hydraulic fracturing will also be considered. Oklahoma State University is making significant investments in energy education, research, and innovation. The College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology (CEAT), together with the Hamm Institute for American Energy, is building interdisciplinary capabilities to address the technological, economic, and workforce challenges facing the rapidly evolving energy industry. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to contribute to these initiatives while helping strengthen and expand Petroleum Engineering within the School of Chemical Engineering. We offer an undergraduate Minor in Petroleum Engineering designed to prepare students from across engineering disciplines for careers in the petroleum industry. We also offer M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Petroleum Engineering, with graduate students working closely with faculty on a variety of research projects. The School currently includes approximately 16 faculty members, four of whom have a primary focus in Petroleum Engineering, and supports approximately 200 undergraduate and 50 graduate students across its programs. The School has a strong history of engagement with alumni and industry and benefits from substantial philanthropic and industrial support, including nine endowed chairs and professorships, faculty development endowments, and numerous research and educational partnerships. OSU's location provides exceptional access to the energy industry. Oklahoma and the surrounding region are home to major oil and gas operators, service companies, technology companies, and energy entrepreneurs, creating significant opportunities for collaborative research, technology development, student engagement, and industry-sponsored projects. The Petroleum Engineering program has historically benefited from strong relationships with both local and national energy companies.

Requirements

  • Earned Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related field by the anticipated start date.
  • Demonstrated potential to develop and sustain a nationally recognized, externally funded research program.
  • Strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate education.
  • Ability to mentor graduate students effectively.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with academic colleagues and industry partners.
