About The Position

Coordinate and perform facility operations, maintenance, repair, and contractor coordination functions for the Victoria Conference Centre (VCC) within a highly visible public-facing environment that supports conferences, events, guests, clients, and facility operations.

Requirements

  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and coordinate operational activities and competing requests.
  • Working knowledge of building automation systems, including direct digital control (DDC), computerized maintenance management (CMMS), and energy management systems.
  • Working knowledge of building maintenance and repair practices, including plumbing, heating, ventilation, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret equipment service and maintenance manuals, building drawings, and specifications.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including word processing, spreadsheet, and email software.
  • Ability to maintain accurate operational records and documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide responsive customer service to guests, clients, contractors, suppliers, staff, and external agencies.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and resolve issues in a tactful and professional manner.
  • Ability to work safely and comply with applicable health and safety requirements.
  • High school graduation.
  • Current and valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's licence.
  • Elevated work platform certificate. (8 hours)
  • Completion of post-secondary courses or technical training related to building operations, facility maintenance, building systems, or a related field.
  • 4 years of related experience in an event or hospitality facility management environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Building Operator Certification (BOC) Level 1, or an equivalent combination of training an experience would be considered an asset
  • Occupational first aid certification, or ability to obtain, would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor the work order system and perform preventative maintenance and repair functions on plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including boilers, chillers, cooling towers, ventilation units, and associated components.
  • Respond to facility alarms, determine appropriate resources for repair, and track, input, and log repair activities and task completion.
  • Obtain quotes and assist with cost estimates, sourcing materials, equipment, suppliers, and contracted services.
  • Maintain facility key management systems and related software.
  • Coordinate and schedule contractors working within the facility and communicate operational impacts and work activities to internal staff, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Distribute event-related operational information to external contractors and service providers.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Technical Safety BC regulations, WorkSafeBC regulations, and the City’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Monitor, review, and report on contractor work progress and service delivery.
  • Review timesheets for accuracy and process invoices for payment.
  • Provide work direction and instruction to staff as required and assist in the orientation and training of staff and contractors, including VCC emergency response protocols.
  • Schedule and monitor loading dock and service yard activities and issue parking passes related to loading dock and service yard access.
  • Perform related duties where qualified.
