About The Position

A Facilitator is a leader, who commits to teach by modeling and demonstrates characteristics that participants can learn from. It is essential that candidates applying for this position enjoy being around middle school age children, respect them as people, and seek to include them in fun learning activities. In most cases, Facilitators have an Assistant, which they supervise and provide guidance for the day-to-day activities. Children’s Aid Mission To help children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive support to children and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods. Children’s Aid annually serves children and their families at over 40 sites in New York, as well as through three national program models. Children’s Aid is concentrating its efforts on creating cradle-through-college pathways in high-need neighborhoods, with a focus on children’s health, family stability, education, and social and emotional development. Requirements

Pursuing an associate or bachelor’s degree.
At least one year’s experience working with children, tutoring, or teaching is highly preferred.
Must be punctual, responsible, have a positive attitude and provide encouragement to children.

Bilingual: English/Spanish speaker preferred.

Responsibilities

Provide supervision and care of (up to) 15 middle school participants which comprise a group or club.
Develop lesson plans, teach, supervise, and organize games. each by modeling skills and values aligned with our program.
Provide individual and group tutoring in areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, and study skills during Learning Zone.
Demonstrate and develop effective classroom and behavioral management skills.
Lead and plan activities aligned with the standards of project-based learning.
Communicate regularly with the Program Director and/or Education Coordinator in regards to lesson planning and implementation.
Implement professionally developed literacy-based curriculum.
Help design, plan and lead the implementation of special projects in and out of program.
Attend regular staff meetings, trainings and work cooperatively with other staff members in the program and in the schools.
Assist in activities or tasks necessary to ensure an orderly operation of the program: supervise children during supper, ensuring equipment is properly signed out and that all equipment is properly cleaned and returned.
Develop relationships with children and their families.
Must be available from September through June for the after-school enrichment program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
