About The Position

Access 2 Interpreters, LLC is hiring face-to-face interpreters for Thai, Taishanese, Laotian, Khmer, Cambodian, and/or Korean. Interpreters use their bilingual skills to assist people during medical, social service, and other appointments. This is in-person interpretation, not video or telephone interpretation. The role offers a flexible schedule: contractors choose their own hours and may accept as many or as few available assignments as they wish. Assignments are available 24/7/365, although most are requested during business hours. Previous professional interpretation experience is not required, and applicants who speak English as a second language are welcome. Applicants must be located in Central Ohio.

Requirements

  • Be located in the Central Ohio area.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Be eligible to work in the United States.
  • Pass a fingerprint-based Federal Criminal Background Check and a 10-panel drug screening; these are provided at no cost to the applicant.
  • Provide proof of completion of at least 40 hours of interpreter training through an accredited program, such as Bridging the Gap, Access 2 Interpreters' Access Academy, Court Interpretation, or an interpretation certificate or degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Provide certification of bilingual proficiency or pay for and complete a third-party bilingual fluency evaluation through an accredited testing and evaluation organization.
  • Speak English and at least one of the following languages or dialects: Thai, Taishanese, Laotian, Khmer, Cambodian, or Korean.

Responsibilities

  • Provide face-to-face interpretation during medical, social service, and other appointments.
  • Accept and complete available assignments according to the schedule chosen by the interpreter.
