About The Position

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is seeking an Extra Help/Lab Assistant in the Biology Department to perform experiments relating to microbiology and genomics. The role includes routine laboratory work and microbiological techniques such as bacterial growth and genetics, DNA extraction, PCR, and agarose gel electrophoresis. The successful applicant will have foundational biology knowledge, hands-on laboratory skills, and basic spreadsheet knowledge. The position may be extended to future semesters and is governed by state and federal laws and institutional policy. This is an in-person role.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• A minimum of three semesters of college biology, including in-person laboratory coursework in microbiology and general chemistry.
• Basic knowledge of equipment used in a microbiology laboratory.
• Knowledge of aseptic technique.
• Knowledge of MS Office or Google Suite.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to follow instructions well and assiduously.
• Ability to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to accept constructive feedback and implement it effectively.
• Foundational biology knowledge, hands-on laboratory skills, and basic spreadsheet knowledge.

Nice To Haves

• Overall GPA of 3.0 or higher.
• In-person laboratory coursework in genetics or molecular biology.

Responsibilities
