About The Position

The Experienced Miner extracts minerals and resources at underground or surface mining sites. The role involves operating and maintaining mining equipment, following safety protocols and regulatory standards, and supporting efficient resource recovery while minimizing environmental impact. The miner collaborates with engineering, safety, and environmental teams to optimize mining plans and address operational challenges. For workers who are not Juneau-based, the role involves working on a remote island and living in a mining camp away from home on a 20-days-on/10-days-off schedule.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 3 years of experience in underground or surface mining operations.
• Valid certification or license to operate mining machinery as required by state or federal regulations.
• Strong knowledge of mining safety standards and procedures.
• Ability to work in physically demanding environments and follow safety protocols.

Nice To Haves

• Associate degree or technical certification in mining technology or a related field.
• Experience with computerized mining equipment and software.
• First aid and CPR certification.
• Familiarity with environmental regulations related to mining activities.
• Demonstrated leadership skills or experience in a supervisory role.
• Communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain mining equipment, including drills, loaders, and haul trucks, to extract minerals safely and efficiently.
• Work on a remote island and, if not Juneau-based, live in a mining camp away from home on a 20-days-on/10-days-off schedule.
• Inspect mining sites regularly to identify hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Assist with planning and carrying out mining operations, including drilling, blasting, and material transport.
• Monitor and report mining progress, equipment performance, and operational issues to supervisors.
• Collaborate with safety officers to implement and follow safety protocols that protect personnel and the environment.
• Participate in training sessions and safety drills to stay current with industry practices and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain accurate records of mining activities, equipment maintenance, and incident reports.
