The Teacher is required to follow all Board Policies and procedures, and to comply with the instructions and/or directives from his/her supervisor(s). The purpose of this role is to plan, instruct, and organize instructional environments which help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Teachers demonstrate leadership in their classrooms, take responsibility for all student learning, communicate vision to students, and use data to organize, plan, and set goals. They also use a variety of assessment data throughout the year to evaluate progress and establish a safe and orderly environment. Teachers demonstrate leadership in the school by working collaboratively with school personnel to create a professional learning community, analyzing data, developing goals and strategies through the school improvement plan, and collaborating with colleagues to mentor and support teachers to improve effectiveness. Teachers lead the teaching profession by contributing to the establishment of positive working conditions and participating in decision-making structures, promoting professional growth. Teachers advocate for schools and students, advocate for positive change in policies and practices affecting student learning, and participate in the implementation of initiatives to improve education. Teachers demonstrate high ethical standards by upholding the Code of Ethics and Standards for Professional Conduct. Teachers know the content they teach, align their instruction with the Common Core, develop and apply strategies to make the curriculum rigorous and relevant, and develop literacy and math skills appropriate to their specialty area. They know subject matter beyond the content they teach, direct students' curiosity into an interest in learning, and promote global awareness and its relevance. Teachers incorporate life skills, leadership, ethics, accountability, adaptability, personal productivity, personal responsibility, and people skills. Teachers are knowledgeable about special education policies and procedures, collaborate with regular education teachers, develop and follow IEPs, and maintain compliant confidential records and paperwork, collecting ongoing assessment and data on individual student goals.
