About The Position

This posting is for an applicant pool for affiliate faculty in the School of Hospitality. These are temporary, part-time, non-tenure track academic positions that vary from semester to semester based on program needs. Screening of applicants will occur when positions become available, and not all applicants in the pool will be contacted or selected to teach. The School of Hospitality at Metropolitan State University of Denver (MSU Denver) invites applications for these positions. MSU Denver, established in 1965, serves over 16,000 diverse students and is a model university for today’s college students, recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and the only Seal of Excelencia certified institution in Colorado. The School of Hospitality offers multiple majors, a minor, and several certificates, featuring unique facilities like a LEED Gold® hotel, a commercial conference space, a beverage testing laboratory, a restaurant, the Day Leadership Academy, and the Charlie Papazian Brewing Education Lab.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Master’s degree in the field in which the faculty member is assigned to teach OR a Bachelor’s degree in a hospitality-related discipline plus substantial, current professional experience (normally no less than ten consecutive years with increasing levels of responsibility and significant supervisory experience) that clearly links to the field.
  • If the Master’s degree is outside the field of assignment, there is an increased expectation of substantial professional work experience in the discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Nationally recognized certificates and licenses relevant to the field in which the faculty member is assigned to teach (e.g., CMP, CMM, CGMP, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Teach 3+ credit hours in subject areas that may include Wedding Planning, Event Industry, Event Project Management, Event Planning, Event Support Systems, and Special Event Production.
  • Work and interact with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
  • Demonstrate ability to effectively infuse technology into coursework.
  • Be available for consultation with students.
  • Teach assigned classes in person or online by delivering course content to students.
  • Prepare course materials and lesson plans.
  • Grade student work and provide robust feedback in a timely manner.
  • Address student questions consistent with university, college/school, and department policies.
  • Provide online or in-person academic support to students as needed and appropriate for the teaching assignment.
  • Provide instruction in assigned classes consistent with the content and learning objectives of the regular course syllabus and, if required, with department course coordination policies.
  • Comply with university-wide student evaluation of instruction policies and peer observation policies.
  • Adapt and learn new modes of instruction.
  • Be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse student population.
