About The Position

The New York City Law Department is seeking an admitted attorney to supervise and manage the Juvenile Delinquency Evening Court Team in the Family Court Division. The Juvenile Delinquency Prosecution Unit investigates referred juvenile delinquency matters and prosecutes cases where appropriate. These matters involve youth ages 12 to 17 accused of conduct that would constitute a crime if committed by an adult. The unit seeks to hold youth accountable while ensuring they receive appropriate services, within a Family Court system focused on rehabilitation. The Evening Court Supervisor manages legal staff, support staff, and interns; may conduct or supervise pre-petition detention hearings and interviews of law enforcement personnel or civilian witnesses; and may carry a modified caseload. The Supervisor researches and analyzes legal issues related to cases and processing, communicates relevant operational issues to Division Management, and collaborates with Evening Court stakeholders to support efficient court operations. The role also includes ensuring appropriate coverage and assisting the Chief of Weekend/Holiday/Evening Court with office initiatives and administrative duties. The schedule is an alternative schedule combining weekday nights, weekend nights, and holidays. The position is suited to attorneys interested in public service and the success and well-being of New York City youth, families, and communities. Following orientation, attorneys may opt into one of two remote-work programs, subject to Division approval and staffing needs. One offers limited, irregular work-from-home days; the Citywide Pilot Program allows remote work on two set days per week. Participants must maintain one designated remote-work location, and in-person obligations take precedence. The pilot is being tested across City agencies and is not yet permanent.
