About The Position

Ethical Culture Fieldston School is seeking a dynamic, creative, and collaborative educator to teach ethics to 3rd-5th Grade students and coordinate the divisional service-learning program. Ethics is central to the school's mission, aiming to produce individuals prepared to change society based on ethical ideas. This role involves teaching ethics, coordinating service programs across grades and divisions, liaising with external agencies, and supporting SEL and Health curricula. The position is full-time (1.0 FTE) for the 26/27 school year, with a hiring range of $75,261 - $184,830. This is an onsite role.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience teaching elementary school children.
  • Extensive knowledge of ethics theory and philosophy.
  • A passion for teaching with a pleasant and positive demeanor toward all forms of teaching and learning.
  • The ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with faculty, administrators, students, parents, and the overall community.
  • An understanding and commitment to cultural competency and how to support students of all backgrounds.
  • Skill in designing instruction that is data driven, differentiated, and actively engaging.
  • Previous experience leading morning meetings, such as those outlined by the Responsive Classroom.
  • Prior experience in developing social studies curricula with a hands-on, developmentally appropriate focus.
  • A commitment to progressive education.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching ethics to 3rd-5th graders in accordance with the school's mission.
  • Collaborating with colleagues, sharing resources, and communicating about curriculum and students.
  • Preparing for and communicating student performance and growth with parents/guardians at scheduled conferences.
  • Addressing student behavioral issues and classroom challenges to maintain a safe and calm environment.
  • Maintaining accurate student record keeping, including grades and attendance.
  • Providing encouragement to students to support their social and emotional growth.
  • Ensuring the confidentiality of student information.
  • Attending all departmental, divisional, and school-wide meetings.
  • Maintaining compliance with all school policies, state regulations, and educational standards.
  • Performing other related projects and duties as needed and assigned.
