About The Position

Pope Saint John Paul II Preparatory School seeks a theology teacher who desires to accompany students on the journey in spirit and truth towards an encounter with God. The theology department at JPII strives for the Christ encounter by means of creative pedagogy, the beauty of the Catholic theological and liturgical tradition, service to our community, and prayer in a spirit of humility. Through this intentional community-building, we seek to create a strong sense of belonging while challenging students to think at a high level in the theology classroom and in service. The school’s Service Learning program coordinator communicates expectations to students, organizes data, and develops relationships with local non-profit organizations.

Requirements

  • Live out their Catholic faith through regular attendance at Mass and participation in the sacraments.
  • Be able to educate intentionally, thoughtfully, and respectfully in a classroom of diverse students.
  • Articulate the Catholic faith in ways that emphasize Theological formation and a lived Social Justice ethic.
  • Be familiar, or be willing to grow in familiarity with, the spirituality and holiness of our patron; Saint John Paul II.
  • The candidate must be a practicing Catholic.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Theology department members to implement a 7-year curriculum that is authentically Catholic.
  • Design curricula that is dynamic, demonstrative of a strong collaborative spirit, and utilizes cutting edge pedagogic principles.
  • Embrace our model of team teaching, where faculty utilize shared assessments and course objectives to provide equitable experiences for students while embracing the unique strengths and teaching styles of each department member.
  • Support the liturgical, prayer, and service life of the school, especially through modeling virtue, faith, and participation for our students.
  • Partner with the Director of Campus Ministry and Chaplain to communicate with local community partnering organizations in order to plan and implement high school grade-level service retreats.
  • Implement Service Learning in the Middle School as a key aspect of JPII culture.
  • Manage the school’s Service Learning program which includes: communicating expectations to students, organizing data, and developing relationships with local non-profit organizations.
