About The Position

The purpose of this role is to plan, organize, and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. The teacher is responsible for managing instructional time, student behavior, instructional presentation, monitoring student performance, providing feedback, facilitating instruction, and interacting effectively within the educational environment. Additionally, the teacher will perform non-instructional duties as assigned and adhere to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations, while also following a plan for professional development and demonstrating growth.

Requirements

  • Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as an EC Teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
  • Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs.
  • Ability to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Physical requirements consistent with Light Work due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking.
  • Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things.
  • Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
  • Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.
  • Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using a prescribed format.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form.
  • Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal and counseling terminology.

  • Ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape.

Responsibilities

  • Manage instructional time by having materials, supplies, and equipment ready, starting and getting students on task quickly, and maintaining a high level of student time-on-task.
  • Manage student behavior by establishing clear rules and procedures for routines, participation, and movement, and by promptly and consistently addressing inappropriate behavior while maintaining student dignity.
  • Present instruction effectively by reviewing previous material, introducing new lessons with clear objectives, speaking fluently and precisely, using understandable language and relevant examples, assigning tasks with a high success rate, asking appropriate questions, pacing lessons effectively, making smooth transitions, clarifying assignments, and summarizing main points.
  • Monitor student performance by maintaining clear work standards, circulating during class work, using various assessments to check progress, and posing questions clearly.
  • Provide feedback on student work to encourage growth, offering prompt feedback on assigned work, affirming correct responses, and providing sustaining feedback after incorrect responses.
  • Facilitate instruction by having an instructional plan compatible with school and system-wide goals, using diagnostic information to revise objectives, maintaining accurate records, aligning objectives with strategies and assessments, and utilizing available resources.
  • Interact effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Perform non-instructional duties as assigned, adhere to laws and policies, and engage in professional development.
