About The Position
American Buildings Company is seeking an Estimator to help support sales and profitability by developing safe, accurate, and cost-effective quotes for metal building systems. The role works across departments, the plant, and outside sales as part of the Nucor Buildings Group team. The Estimator performs quote functions for estimating and preparing proposals for low-rise steel building projects. The role uses company processes, computer tools, pricing tables, and product knowledge to account for relevant project costs, while considering material costs, erection concerns, and fabrication procedures. The Estimator also supports customer and sales interactions by identifying economical solutions and value-engineering alternatives, and helps develop tools and standards to improve estimating productivity and accuracy. Safety is a priority in all Nucor jobs. The Estimator must demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to demonstrate the ability to uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in a construction discipline.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
- Experience in the metal building industry.
Responsibilities
- Create competitive, accurate, and thorough estimates for metal building systems in accordance with company processes, procedures, and practices.
- Qualify proposals using assumed and supplementary information provided about the project.
- Support sales efforts by identifying economical solutions and alternatives that provide the least-cost proposal while meeting known project conditions.
- Assist in customer meetings, primarily during the proposal or closing stage, and offer value-engineering suggestions.
- Use computer tools, pricing tables, and knowledge of products and their applications to account for relevant project costs.
- Consider material costs, erection concerns, and fabrication procedures in relation to the in-place cost of the total structure.
- Follow schedules established by the Estimating Supervisor, sales team, and builders.
- Proactively assist with developing tools, standards, and other resources to improve individual and department productivity and accuracy.
- Initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards.
