About The Position
MercyOne is hiring an ER Tech / Patient Care Tech to support professional clinical staff in the Emergency Department. The role provides direct patient care, performs phlebotomy and EKGs, and provides assistive skills for patients of all ages, as assigned by a physician or RN. It also includes clerical work and coordinating communications within the nursing unit, facilitating information exchange between the nursing area and other hospital departments. Duties may vary by shift and assigned department. The schedule is 12-hour day shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with every third weekend and rotating holidays.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter – Child and/or Dependent Adult Abuse training within three months of hire.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification within six weeks of hire.
Nice To Haves
- 1–2 years of healthcare experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist triage nursing with the needs of individuals in the waiting area, including taking vital signs, rooming patients, and helping patients get out of cars.
- Complete daily stocking in the assigned team.
- Assist the RN with the arrival of EMS patients.
- Transport patients to other hospital departments, including CT, Surgery, and admitted floors.
- Prepare rooms for the next patient by changing linens on carts, disposing of used equipment and disposable items, and wiping down counters and sinks when necessary.
- Round hourly on patients, meet their needs, or communicate those needs to the RN.
- Perform or assist patients with personal hygiene, including oral care, dressing and undressing, and elimination needs.
- Collect and accurately label specimens, including urine and venous blood specimens.
- Provide direct patient care and perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and assistive skills for patients of all ages as assigned.
- Perform clerical work and coordinate communications within the assigned nursing unit.
- Facilitate information exchange between the nursing area and other hospital departments.
