About The Position

The Equipment Operator A position with the Department of Human Services offers a hands-on role that helps keep Wernersville State Hospital safe and efficient. This job provides the chance to work with a wide variety of vehicles and equipment while supporting daily operations. Your work will help ensure safe transportation and reliable services across the campus. This position supports the safe and efficient operation of Wernersville State Hospital by operating vehicles, equipment, and tools used for transportation and grounds work. The role helps maintain daily services and ensures that important tasks are completed reliably.

Requirements

• Six months experience in the operation and maintenance of large vans, buses and single-chassis trucks with a gross vehicle weight of 10,001 pounds or more; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training
• Possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license
• Must meet the PA residency requirement
• Must be able to perform essential job functions
• Conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination
• Conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance

Nice To Haves

• Obtain a commercial driver's license (CDL) within the probationary period

Responsibilities

• Operate buses, trucks, vans, tractors, and other equipment to support hospital transportation needs
• Use mowers and related equipment to maintain safe and well-kept outdoor areas
• Move consumers, employees, supplies, food, and equipment both on and off the hospital grounds
• Complete safety checks, clean vehicles, and perform minor maintenance tasks to keep equipment in good condition
• Operate plows, blowers, and de-icing equipment to maintain safe travel during winter conditions
• Load materials, clean outdoor areas, and assist with tasks that support facility upkeep

Benefits

• Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $36,108.00 (before taxes).
