About The Position

The Environmental Services Technician performs complete cleaning of assigned areas in a healthcare setting. Duties include cleaning and sanitizing surfaces and equipment, washing windows and fixtures, maintaining floors and carpets, restocking restrooms, replacing light bulbs, and reporting repairs. Most work is indoors, though the technician may help with outdoor cleaning, and some tasks may require a ladder. The role involves frequent contact with cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, floor strippers, and finishes. The technician collects and transports soiled linen; empties trash and sharps containers; transports solid and hazardous waste to compactors; recycles materials; and empties cigarette receptacles in smoking areas. The technician also keeps equipment clean and orderly, reports equipment or mechanical problems, follows safety, infection-control, and departmental quality procedures, attends required training, and meets assigned schedules and deadlines. The work is repetitive and follows set procedures in a stressful, fast-paced environment. Work may take place in contaminated, isolation, construction, and renovation areas, with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures, unpleasant odors, and individuals with varying mental and physical conditions and illnesses.
