About The Position

The Environmental Service Worker performs tasks to maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment at University Hospital. The position cleans patient and non-patient areas throughout the facility using approved cleaners and hospital-approved germicide. Duties include cleaning rooms and common areas, handling linen and beds, managing waste and recycling, and performing light moves and setups. Other related duties may be assigned. University Hospital is an academic medical center, the principal teaching affiliate of Rutgers New Jersey Medical School, and the only state-certified Level 1 Trauma Center in Northern New Jersey. It trains physicians, advances science, and provides patient care regardless of patients’ financial situations.

Requirements

Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to carry out the duties of the position.

Nice To Haves

Prior experience in institutional environmental services is preferred.

Responsibilities

Keep patient and non-patient areas clean, safe, and orderly.
Clean patient rooms, bathrooms, showers, laboratories, offices, corridors, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, elevators, stairways, locker rooms, and other assigned areas using approved cleaners and hospital-approved germicide.
Strip linen from beds, wash beds and mattresses using hospital-approved germicide, and remake beds after discharge.
Dust furniture and equipment; empty waste baskets, trash, recycling, and medical waste containers; wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, door panels, and sills; and polish metalwork such as fixtures and fittings.
Transport trash and waste to the disposal area.
Perform light moves and setups.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
