About The Position

Performs cleaning duties and other tasks within the Environmental Services Department. Follows NS-LIJHS and departmental policies and procedures, as well as JCAHO and regulatory agency requirements. Duties include cleaning and maintaining patient and facility areas, floors, furnishings, and equipment; handling linens, waste, and supplies; moving furniture; and setting up and clearing event spaces. Performs related duties as required.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
At least one year of experience in an industrial or hospital setting preferred.
Demonstrated competency using buffing and scrubbing machines, vacuum cleaners, and extractor machines.
Demonstrated competency using a Sani-Pak and cardboard baling machine.
Able to lift and carry 15 pounds.
Able to walk up and down stairs and repeatedly bend at the knees during the shift while performing cleaning duties.
Able to communicate effectively in English, both speaking and reading.

Responsibilities

Performs cleaning functions according to established procedures and in a timely manner.
Uses properly labeled cleaning supplies as instructed.
Maintains tools and equipment in good condition and uses supplies economically.
Cleans beds, blinds, ceilings, light fixtures, sinks, toilets, bathtubs, showers, walls, windows, wall tiles, vents, televisions, and other items according to established procedures.
Washes and hangs draperies and cubicle curtains.
Washes and polishes furniture and metal.
Sweeps walkways and the outside perimeter of the facility where applicable.
Sweeps, mops, strips, scrubs, vacuums, and buffs floors.
Replenishes liquid soap, paper towels, and toilet tissue.
Moves furniture within the facility and, where applicable, to outside storage; distributes clean linen carts; and picks up soiled linen for delivery to the linen department.
Collects garbage, cleans and relines trash receptacles, and transports and disposes of non-infectious waste appropriately.
Deposits infectious waste Red Bags in the holding cart cautiously, transports them to the Sani-Pak area, and operates the Sani-Pak receptacle.
Moves and replaces furniture as needed for carpet installation, floor stripping, sealing or waxing, department relocations, and other required work.
Sets up and breaks down tables, chairs, lecture podiums, and other items according to specifications.
Removes trash before setting up for the next function or meeting.
Performs related duties as required.
