About The Position

This position is for an Environmental Manager within the Onsite Sewage Program. The role involves supervising a team, promoting public health, and ensuring program compliance. The manager will be responsible for quality control, reporting, and enforcing regulations. This is an internal agency opportunity, accepting applications only from Department of Health employees.

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 30 semester hours or 40 quarter hours of class work in public health, environmental health, environmental science, or a physical or biological science is required per section 381.0101, Florida Statutes and Chapter 64E-18, Florida Administrative Code.
• Ability to use PC and use of general office equipment, use bucket auger to profile soils to a depth of 72", and use field measuring devices.
• Ability to lift over 50 pounds, repetitively perform simple grasping, fine manipulation skills, bend, reach, balance, kneel, sit for 5-8 hours, and file.
• Ability to travel to various locations in Brevard County up to 100+ miles as needed.
• Ability to work in inclement weather including 95+ degree weather.
• Hold a Certified Environmental Health Professional certificate in Onsite Sewage.
• Ability to travel to various locations in Brevard County up to 100+ miles a day in all weather conditions as needed.
• Required to work before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
• Must be proficient in computers, laptops, Microsoft, EHD and other computer programs.
• Must carry a valid Driver’s license.
• Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in FDOH’s Environmental Public Health’s Onsite Sewage Program.
• Have a minimum of 2 years’ experience as a supervisor in Environmental Public Health.
• Able to work daily in-office and/or field work.
• Must be able to learn and communicate effectively, orally and in writing, in English.

Nice To Haves

• General Knowledge of Microsoft Office software package (Word. Excel. PowerPoint & Access) and Environmental Health Database.

Responsibilities

• Supervising Environmental Supervisors, Specialists, Fiscal Assistants, and Senior Clerks in the Onsite Sewage Program.
• Promote and protects public health.
• Motivated, trains, and directs staff.
• Completes on-site quality control inspections in the programs.
• Prepares reports regarding program compliance.
• Understands and applies applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures relating to environmental programs and reviews staff work products for compliance.
• Understands and follows legislative policy direction as established in Florida Statutes.
• Deals with the public.
• Works independently, plans, makes decisions, organizes, and coordinates work assignments and supervises people.
• Determines work priorities, assigns work and ensures proper completion of work assignments.
• Communicates effectively.
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
• Utilizes problem-solving techniques.
• Issues enforcement action for non-compliant facilities.
• Reviews of applications and issues permit accordingly.
• Uses required equipment for Onsite Sewage Program.
• Participates in public education (individually, group setting, and phone calls).
• Attends training sessions, seminars, and meetings to obtain education on all environmental health regulations related to public health that are under the jurisdiction of the department.
• Protects Public Health.
