About The Position

The Environmental Health Program provides licensing and inspection services to just under 2000 businesses throughout Coconino County, including food establishments, hotels/motels, pools and spas, schools, children’s camps, trailer parks/campgrounds, body art establishments as well as special event permitting. In addition, the program responds to public nuisance complaints and conducts vector activities for the surveillance of vector-borne illnesses. This position could cover a variety of areas within Coconino County (Page, Tuba City, Marble Canyon, Fredonia, Cameron, Williams, Sedona, Tusayan, Flagstaff, etc.). As a result, significant driving will be part of this position. Under general supervision, performs work of moderate difficulty in the environmental health field; performs related work as assigned. The hiring range for this position is determined by qualifications: Environmental Health Specialist I (Technician) - $56,009.20, Environmental Health Specialist II - $60,268.21, Environmental Health Specialist III - $64,645.98.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, environmental science, or closely related field (EHS I, II, III)
  • Must achieve at least one of the following certifications within one year of employment: Attain Registered Sanitarian certification; licensed by State Pest Control Commission; or certified as a Pool/Spa Operator by the National Swimming Pool Foundation (EHS I)
  • Must obtain an Arizona driver’s license by date of hire and maintain it throughout employment (EHS I, II, III)
  • Final job offer will be contingent upon a satisfactory 5-year Arizona Motor Vehicle Report (EHS I, II, III)
  • One year experience working in an environmental health program (EHS II)
  • Must possess current certification as a Registered Sanitarian with the State of Arizona (EHS II, III)
  • Must be licensed by State Pest Control Commission (EHS II, III)
  • Certified Pool/Spa Operator by the National Swimming Pool Foundation (EHS II, III)
  • Willing to attain Pool/Spa Operator certification within the first year of hire or moving to an EHS II (EHS II)
  • Work towards standardization by the Food & Drug Administration as available (EHS II)
  • Three years of experience working in an environmental health program (EHS III)
  • Any combination of post-graduate education, training, and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position (EHS III)

  • Assists in epidemiological investigations (EHS II)
  • Coordinates inspection activities with related agencies (EHS II)
