About The Position

Torn Banner Studios is a Toronto, Canada-based independent game development studio founded in 2010. We first made our mark with Chivalry: Medieval Warfare, a multi-million copy selling title that redefined melee combat in gaming. Since then, we’ve continued to grow and innovate, releasing Chivalry 2 and, most recently, No More Room in Hell 2, currently in Early Access. Today, our team of around 100 developers is dedicated to creating unique, challenging, and fun gaming experiences. As an Environment Artist at a mid-size independent studio, you’ll have a wide range of responsibilities from creating art, communicating with production, facilitating feedback, and working with other team members to execute the vision for the games we make.

Requirements

  • An exceptional portfolio of work that exemplifies the creation of high-quality photorealistic environments.
  • 3+ years of professional game development experience as an Environment Artist.
  • Experience developing AAA titles on PC and/or console.
  • Deep knowledge of game environment development processes, from sculpting to retopo, baking, uvs, texturing, etc.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • A high degree of self-motivation and initiative-taking.
  • Experience Unreal Engine 5, Maya, 3Ds Max, or Blender, Z Brush, and Adobe Substance Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong technical knowledge working within Unreal Engine 5, including experience with UE5 specific pipelines: Nanite, Lumen, PCG (Procedural Content Generation), Blueprints, etc.
  • Experience working with LMS (Layered Material Systems).
  • Background in traditional art.
  • Concept Art skills.

Responsibilities

  • See playable environments through from conception to completion.
  • Produce photorealistic asset and environments.
  • Work closely with the level design team and other artists to bring the concepts to life.
  • Plan, estimate and prioritize time frames for the completion of tasks while tracking progress .
  • Help identify and fix bugs, including performance and budget issues.
  • Implement and incorporate feedback from Director and Leads into work.
  • Work with the team to achieve the desired level of quality and technical accuracy.
  • Help define best practices for our production workflows.
  • Participate in brainstorming and concept development sessions, contributing fresh ideas and innovative approaches.
