About The Position

Serve as a technical expert in system administration for complex operating systems, with responsibility for successful implementation and system availability. The role plans, designs, tests, implements, and troubleshoots enterprise server and storage systems, and deploys and maintains server hosts, storage systems, virtual machines, and related hardware. It also maintains expertise in relevant technology products, services, protocols, and standards across datacenter compute, storage, and cloud compute industries. The position implements and maintains security solutions; prepares written solution proposals that describe recommended equipment, costs, and implementation timelines; supports business continuity and disaster recovery planning; manages servers and associated software; performs domain security audits; works with vendors and contractors; provides training and documentation; and defines and monitors server storage allocations. This is a contract-to-hire position based in Mason, Michigan, with a hybrid workplace arrangement. The stated pay range is $45.00–$55.00 per hour. Up to 15% domestic and international travel is required. The position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree emphasizing computer science, information systems, or a related field, plus three years of related IT work experience within the last seven years; alternatively, a high school diploma or equivalent plus six years of related IT work experience within the last seven years.
Three years of experience within the last five years managing a multi-server environment.
One year of experience administering and managing VMware.
Experience configuring server operating systems.
Excellent verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain difficult technical issues persuasively and listen effectively.
Ability to maintain composure and adapt in a dynamic, fast-paced, customer-focused environment with rapid change, minimal lead times, and competing priorities.
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license and passport.
Favorable motor vehicle report upon hire.

Nice To Haves

Linux, including Red Hat.
Automation and scripting, including PowerShell.
AI development experience.
Experience with Cisco UCS, storage, virtualization, Proxmox, KVM, Windows, and Windows Server.

Responsibilities

Plan, design, test, implement, and troubleshoot enterprise server and storage systems.
Design, deploy, and maintain company server hosts, storage systems, virtual machines, and related hardware.
Maintain and develop expertise in relevant technology products, services, protocols, and standards in datacenter compute, storage, and cloud compute.
Implement and maintain security solutions, including firewall, antivirus, and remedy processes.
Prepare written proposals describing solutions to business problems, recommended equipment, equipment costs, and implementation timeframes.
Assist in developing business continuity and disaster recovery plans and perform disaster recovery configuration changes.
Manage servers and their associated operating systems and software.
Perform domain security audits.
Interact with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure server products and services.
Provide training and relevant documentation for support personnel, customers, and management.
Define and monitor server storage space allotments.
