About The Position

APM Terminals, part of Maersk, is a global leader in container shipping and ports. APM Terminals Los Angeles is seeking an Engineering Recent Graduate for its internship program, designed to enhance students' technical and personal work experience as the company moves towards a terminal automation footprint. This program offers practical exposure to maintenance management, equipment reliability, and engineering support activities within a diverse, multinational workplace. Interns will learn from experienced professionals, participate in automation and continuous improvement initiatives, and develop skills in a large-scale port environment.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s degree program with a STEM focus, preferably Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Interest in engineering, maintenance, equipment reliability, and troubleshooting.
  • Programming knowledge and proficiency with PC applications, including Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Good organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to follow directions in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

Responsibilities

  • Support the maintenance and engineering teams while developing a practical understanding of terminal equipment and asset management processes.
  • Assist with maintenance management activities and initiatives that improve equipment and system performance.
  • Support preventive maintenance processes, equipment inspections, troubleshooting activities, and safety practices.
  • Help review and improve routine maintenance and repair checklists.
  • Assist with data entry, maintenance shift reports, equipment records, and maintenance software updates.
  • Apply basic mechanical, electrical, and automation principles while supporting daily operations.
  • Participate in equipment troubleshooting efforts and help identify opportunities to reduce repetitive breakdowns and improve reliability.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects, safety initiatives, and other assigned learning projects.
