About The Position

Carnegie Mellon University's College of Engineering is seeking an intern to work closely with the Director of Engineering Outreach. This role involves collaborating with community partners in the Greater Pittsburgh area who serve K-12 students, managing student outreach teams, scheduling visits, and assisting with the development and implementation of engineering curriculum, including module material acquisition and testing. The intern will also help develop trust-based relationships with historically marginalized communities in Pittsburgh and provide guidance, skill development, and programming support to K-12 students. Adaptability, excellence, and passion are vital qualities for this role, as is the ability to interact with a varied population of internal and external partners with high integrity.

Requirements

  • K-12 experience required.
  • Experience in STEM field is required.
  • Knowledge and experience developing/implementing outreach programming is required.
  • Obtain Clearances Act 33, Act 34, and Act 151.

Nice To Haves

  • Collaborative professional with experience working on college campuses in academic and/or K-12 student services environments is preferred.
  • Experience with G suite applications.
  • Strong time management, organization, and project prioritization skills.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Work in collaboration with the Director of Engineering Outreach to support K-12 outreach efforts, including timely updates and follow-up on community partner initiatives.
  • Establish a connection with engineering students interested in outreach.
  • Continue to help develop trust-based relationships with communities within Pittsburgh that have been historically marginalized.
  • Provide guidance, skill development and programming support to K-12 students.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
