The Engineering Manager will lead a team of software and machine learning engineers developing Google's foundational Semantic Location engine. The engine infers where people go and how they move in the real world, and powers Google products including Busyness, Transit Crowdedness, Maps Timeline, Commute Notifications, Maps user-generated content, and Ads measurement. It runs on hundreds of millions of Android and iOS devices and is built using large-scale, parallel training pipelines on Google servers. The team focuses on improving the model and its products through better signal acquisition, feature engineering, model architecture, data cleaning, and ground-truth data. The manager will coach and grow engineers, own the team's multi-quarter strategy and roadmap, and oversee execution. In partnership with the tech lead, the manager will advance machine-learning models and infrastructure while balancing near-term impact, long-term technical investments, and system stability. The role also works with clients across Maps, Ads, Android, and other product areas to align priorities, identify opportunities, and enable new Semantic Location use cases. The Geo team builds mapping products and services including Maps, Earth, Street View, and Google Maps Platform, and enables developers to use Google Maps platforms in their apps and websites. Individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The U.S. compensation range is $207,000–$300,000 USD, plus a 20% bonus target, equity, and benefits.
