About The Position

Docplanner is seeking an Engineering Director to lead engineering across Marketplace, Patient Engagement and Payments, which together serve a patient journey used by around 100 million people each month and support more than 300,000 doctors. The role leads approximately 75 engineers and is responsible for bringing the three areas together into a connected, intelligent experience across 13 markets. The work includes shaping AI-powered discovery, booking, engagement, continuity-of-care and payment experiences, while advancing how AI is used throughout engineering development. The director will set the engineering strategy and roadmap, connect technical decisions to product outcomes and business results, and build an organisation of product-minded teams with clear ownership and capable engineering managers. They will guide architecture and engineering standards, balancing delivery speed with reliability, security, privacy and scale. The role also partners closely with Product, Design, Data and business leaders, aligns with engineering peers on shared platforms, and contributes to company-wide technology decisions. This is a hands-on leadership role: the director is expected to use AI coding tools, participate in design and code reviews, and prototype solutions when useful, while delivering most of their impact through developing people. They will establish sound standards for reviewing AI-generated work and protecting quality, security and privacy, and improve delivery through focused priorities, useful measures and root-cause problem solving. In the first year, success means the three areas share priorities and an engineering direction aligned to product strategy; AI features are live in the patient journey and their impact is understood; teams use AI-assisted engineering where it adds value and measure its effects; engineering managers can independently lead delivery, people growth and technical decisions; and a small set of delivery and quality metrics helps identify bottlenecks and improve reliability. The position is remote or hybrid within Poland, with a Warsaw hub available. Docplanner describes its mission as helping people live longer, healthier lives and emphasizes using AI in ways patients and doctors can trust.

Requirements

  • Experience leading multi-team engineering organisations through managers, with a track record of growing leaders and delivering through change.
  • Daily, practical fluency with AI-assisted development tools and sound judgment about their strengths, limitations and risks; a deep machine-learning background is not required.
  • A product mindset that connects engineering strategy to customer outcomes and business results, and attention to whether shipped products are used.
  • Technical depth across architecture, delivery, reliability and security, with comfort engaging in implementation details.
  • Strong partnership skills with Product, Design, Data and business leaders, and the ability to work calmly with executives and ambiguity.
  • Experience with marketplaces and complex, high-stakes products where reliability, privacy and security matter.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Product and Design from discovery through delivery to build AI-powered experiences across search, booking, engagement, continuity of care and payments.
  • Advance AI-assisted development across coding, testing and review; set standards for checking AI output and protecting quality, security and privacy.
  • Guide architecture, design and engineering standards across the portfolio, balancing pace with reliability, security, privacy and scale across markets.
  • Improve how ideas become impact through clear priorities, useful measures, regular learning and root-cause resolution of recurring problems.
  • Align with engineering peers on shared platforms, explain trade-offs to executives and contribute to company-wide technology decisions.
  • Use AI coding tools directly, participate in design and code reviews, and prototype solutions when useful to unblock difficult problems.
  • Establish a small set of delivery and quality metrics to expose bottlenecks and improve reliability.
