About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Design & Engineering Services is looking for an Engineering Assistant 1/2/3 Flex position located in Juneau to help us Keep Alaska Moving! This role involves performing entry/trainee level, design engineering, or preliminary engineering and field reconnaissance duties for capital improvement projects. Responsibilities include assisting in the development of preliminary reconnaissance work for road/airport/marine projects, acquiring preliminary condition data in the field, and developing and producing project plans, specifications, estimates, and other engineering documents. The Engineering Assistant 3 level typically independently performs field reconnaissance, leads mid-level projects, and assists higher-level engineers with complex projects.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution accredited by ABET.
An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination.
One year of entry level engineering, architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
Five years of progressively responsible subprofessional engineering experience of which two years was as a Journey level Engineering Technician or Drafting Technician 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
Two years of engineering, architectural or land surveying experience of which one year was at the working or intermediate trainee level.
Knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, and methods required to plan, design, construct, operate, and maintain facilities such as highway & airport transportation systems, water and sanitary systems, and other public works systems.
