About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) Southcoast Region Highways & Aviation/M&O is looking for an Equipment Operator Journey 1/2/3 Lead Flex position in Yakutat to help us Keep Alaska Moving! This position performs airport and highway maintenance at a State maintenance station that includes a rural Part 139 certificated airport. The role is responsible for maintaining State highways, airports, seaplane floats, bridges, and docks in a safe and fully operable condition for use by the traveling public. Compliance with all applicable Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), and State of Alaska rules and regulations concerning maintenance and operation of Highways and airports is required. The position will utilize various types of light duty equipment to perform maintenance activities in support of State of Alaska mission and maintenance of infrastructure. Use of heavy equipment will be in a training capacity for the Journey 1 level. The Yakutat Maintenance Station is made up of 5 staff who work cooperatively to operate and maintain regulatory certification and compliance of a rural Part 139 certificated airport, State highways, and roads. Our crews operate and maintain these airports and roadways in all conditions, year around. Whether plowing snow in near “white-out” conditions to prepare the Airport for normal aircraft operations; maintaining roadways for the traveling public; repairing asphalt on paved surfaces; conducting security inspections on at the airport; maintaining airport lighting systems; clearing right-of-ways and airport safety areas of vegetation overgrowth; or training for any emergency that may occur. This position may require travel to other stations, possibly for extended periods, during the summer months to complete projects.

Requirements

Any combination of education and/or progressively responsible experience providing the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential duties of 1) assigning and monitoring work while performing as a heavy-duty operator, and/or 2) performing at a rural airport and completing required training in aircraft rescue firefighting competencies, and/or 3) being in charge of a remote maintenance station and/or an airport that either is not certificated or is partially certificated by the Federal Aviation Administration (for Lead/Journey 3).

Class A CDL with N-Tanker endorsement.
Must provide a current copy of your Commercial Driver's License with endorsements.
Three (3) professional references, including name, job title, and current phone numbers.
Must comply with the DOT&PF Drug and Alcohol Policy and procedures and CANNOT start work in a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) position until Management Services or designee has received confirmation of the proposed appointee passing the required Pre-Employment drug test.
Must register with the federal CDL Drug & Alcohol Testing Clearinghouse prior to performing safety-sensitive duties, and provide consent to the Employer to review driver information in accordance with 49 CFR 382.
Class A Alaska Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required at time of hire (for Journey 2 & Lead/Journey 3).
Must obtain an N-Tanker endorsement within 90 days of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment (for Journey 2 & Lead/Journey 3).
