About The Position

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Project Delivery Bridge Section, is seeking an Engineering Assistant 1/2/3 Flex (Drafting / Geo-Spatial Engineer Assistant) to contribute to the Keep Alaska Moving initiative. This role involves drafting bridge design projects and processing information from bridge inspections. Responsibilities include preparing construction plan sheets, conducting bridge inspections, and assisting with bridge management data collection and processing. Under the supervision of licensed engineers, the position entails preparing preliminary bridge layouts and detailed final plans using Auto CAD, as well as assisting with drone and sonar data collection for bridge safety and improvement projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a major in engineering, architecture or land surveying from a postsecondary institution accredited by ABET.
  • An Engineer-In-Training (EIT) or Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certificate issued by a state or the National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors; or verification of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) or Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) examination.
  • One year of entry level engineering, architectural or land surveying experience as an Engineering Assistant 1 with the State of Alaska or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • Five years of progressively responsible subprofessional engineering experience of which two years was as a Journey level Engineering Technician or Drafting Technician 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent elsewhere.
  • Field work that includes traversing uneven terrain and ascending/descending bridge embankments and riverbanks.
