About The Position

ATTENTION ALASKA RESIDENTS! The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Central Region, is looking for two (2) Engineer/Architect 1/2 Flex's (Utility Lead/Manager) in Anchorage to help us Keep Alaska Moving! This position requires high focus on DOT&PF’s vision statement. “Moving beyond Alaska’s challenges while meeting Alaskan’s distinct transportation needs through trust, teamwork and results." This position requires a person to build strong, long-term, and positive relationships with the utility companies serving our communities throughout Central Region. The DOT&PF strives to provide all employees with a professional, interactive and supportive work environment. At the Central Region Traffic, Safety, and Utilities Section, you will be surrounded by a group of supportive peers with diverse backgrounds, varying areas of expertise, and encouraging attitudes.

Requirements

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) or Architect.
  • Persons not registered in the State of Alaska must be registered in a state recognized by the State Board of Registration for Architects, Engineers and Land Surveyors eligible for comity in accordance with AS 08.48.191(b). Persons employed under this provision must become registered in Alaska within one year of hire and sign an agreement to this effect as a condition of employment.
  • One year of professional experience as an Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineering Associate with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent (for Engineer/Architect 2 level).
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
  • Cover Letter describing how you possess the position specific competencies and how your skills will be of particular benefit to the position.
  • Copy of your Professional Engineering (P.E.) License Number (only if licensed outside the State of Alaska).
  • Copy of your valid driver's license.
  • Three (3) professional references, including name, job title, and current phone numbers.
  • Copies of transcripts to verify educational credentials used to meet or support the minimum qualifications/competencies.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all utility-related activities necessary for utility permitting and the development of small to medium sized capital improvement projects that are proposed within the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities’ managed rights-of-way.
  • Coordinate efforts of DOT&PF design staff and/or engineering consultants.
  • Supervise a team of three engineering assistant staff in the Utilities Group.
  • Develop proficiency in the full range of utility related and supervisory duties, advancing to the Engineer/Architect 2 level, following a structured training plan.
