Michaels Energy is seeking an energy engineer to support utility energy efficiency programs in New England. The role performs energy assessments and detailed retro-commissioning (RCx) studies on commercial and industrial buildings, recommends changes to building automation systems, performs energy calculations, and writes reports. Technical work includes identifying energy efficiency measures, engineering calculations and equipment simulations, estimating project costs, and preparing technical reports. Client and customer communication is critical and includes on-site and virtual meetings, presentations, and technical and non-technical writing. The position is suited to an experienced engineer who is passionate about energy efficiency and removing barriers so customers can implement projects. Within the first three months, the engineer is expected to learn company processes and procedures and complete one comprehensive building assessment and one existing-building retro-commissioning assessment. Within six months, the engineer is expected to become proficient in two regional energy efficiency programs, lead customer meetings and project report-outs, and become familiar with utility programs and processes. Performance is measured by utilization, on-budget project performance, client/customer satisfaction, and attention to detail. The position is based in the Boston, Massachusetts metro area, with work from home or in an office/hybrid arrangement once a shared workspace is identified. Regional travel of up to 25% is required for on-site customer work, with minimal overnight stays.
