About The Position

Anthropic is hiring for a special projects role on its energy team. The team sources, structures, and contracts the power needed for Anthropic’s compute infrastructure. This role handles cross-functional problems that do not fit within a single deal or region, working with Compute teams that site, design, build, finance, and operate data centers; teams across Anthropic; and external energy-sector stakeholders. The position combines energy expertise with project execution, stakeholder coordination, and clear communication. The successful candidate will take ambiguous issues from initial investigation through a decision, process, or tool and completion, often by building coalitions across stakeholders who do not report to them. The work includes aligning internal teams on power assumptions, advising on policy and regulatory developments, representing the energy team externally, and managing supporting counsel and consultants. The role requires at least six years of experience in energy policy, energy markets, or energy strategy. A bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is the stated minimum education. Anthropic currently expects staff to work from one of its offices at least 25% of the time, though some roles may require more office time.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience in energy policy, energy markets, or energy strategy.
  • Experience building coalitions among complex, multifunctional stakeholder groups within and outside an organization.
  • Ability to drive projects to completion, from an unclear question to a finished result, across teams that do not report to you.
  • Ability to independently read a tariff, energy services agreement, or FERC order and explain its commercial implications for a large customer.
  • Practical knowledge of state commission and RTO or ISO stakeholder processes.
  • Ability to write quickly and plainly for executives outside energy and for external audiences.
  • Good judgment about what to communicate publicly, who should communicate it, and when not to communicate.
  • Comfort with unscoped work and switching between different problems during the same week.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • A field of study relevant to the role, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with data centers or other large loads on the customer, developer, or utility side.
  • Commercial experience negotiating utility service agreements, energy services agreements, or PPAs, or advising those who negotiate them.
  • Experience in a chief of staff, strategy, or consulting role.
  • Direct experience in a FERC or state commission proceeding or an RTO or ISO working group.
  • Familiarity with gas as well as power.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the head of energy to take on cross-functional problems without a natural owner, drive them to a decision, process, or tool, and hand off the result.
  • Connect energy commercial leads with site selection, data center design, delivery, operations, and finance teams so they use consistent assumptions about power timing, volume, reliability, and cost.
  • Write strategy documents, decision memos, and leadership updates explaining energy-team choices to executives outside the energy field.
  • Build processes and tools, including with Claude, to track commitments, open decisions, and stakeholder records.
  • Run the energy team’s planning rhythm, including priorities, headcount planning, consultant rosters, and follow-up on open decisions.
  • Act as the energy team’s first point of contact for policy, legal, communications, community relations, finance, and other teams, routing questions to the appropriate experts and ensuring timely, accurate responses.
  • Serve as an energy subject matter expert for the policy team and collaborate on the company’s positions on energy issues.
  • Explain to communications and community relations teams what site power supplies mean for local rates, reliability, and emissions.
  • Maintain consistency between company agreements, public statements, and Anthropic’s ratepayer-protection commitment.
  • Prepare energy leaders and executives for external meetings, panels, and testimony, and follow up on resulting actions.
  • Represent the energy team in industry working groups, trade associations, large-customer coalitions, and research collaborations, and report back on relevant developments.
  • Work with policy and legal teams to engage with FERC, state commissions, agencies, legislatures, and RTO and ISO stakeholder processes affecting the portfolio.
  • Explain the commercial impact of proposed tariffs or rules to commercial leads early enough to inform negotiations.
  • Build and maintain relationships with utilities, grid operators, regulatory staff, and counterparts at other large-load customers.
  • Manage outside counsel, consultants, and analysts, including their scope, budget, and work quality.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and benefits.
  • Optional equity donation matching.
  • Generous vacation and parental leave.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Office space for collaboration.
