About The Position

If you want a meaningful role where your attention to detail and friendly approach help community members receive essential heating assistance, consider becoming an Energy Assistance Worker with the Department of Human Services. In this position, you will learn important Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) procedures while supporting customers through each step of the application at the York County Assistance Office. You will strengthen your office and customer service skills as you verify information and prepare documents. Your work will ensure fair, timely decisions for families who rely on these benefits.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in general office work which included interviewing the public; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • You must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • A conditional offer of employment will require submission of criminal history reports.
  • You must pass a background investigation.

Responsibilities

  • Interview applicants, complete forms, and review information to determine eligibility
  • Evaluate mail in applications for accuracy, copy documents for records, and gather missing information
  • Utilize computer systems to collect data needed for eligibility decisions
  • Prepare forms, correspondence, vendor authorizations, and notices for applicants
  • Contact vendors, employers, and other parties to confirm details provided by applicants
  • Review recipient files, investigate complaints or duplicates, and determine whether adjustments are needed
